Some questions to ask before we try to move on from Game of Thrones Season 5

Warning: This post contains spoilers from the Season 5 finale of Game of Thrones.

While we all lick our wounds after that devastating finale last week of the show that likes to mess with our favourite characters,  lets pause for a moment, put down that tissue – SPOILERS, (come back Jon Snow), and take stock of where some of the other characters are whose plots have been cast aside and abandoned until – looking at you GOT TV writers – season 6.

Where is Margaery?

The last time we saw her she was accused by the High Sparrow and his band of merry men in robes of lying and for being an accessory to the crimes of her brother. The High Sparrow put her in a cell beneath the Sept of Baelor where she is awaiting trial. Will we see her in season 6?

What will Sam do when he finds out Jon Snow is dead?

Sam has ridden off into the sunset with Gilly. His best mate Jon Snow has been assasinated, Julius Caesar style by his Watch. When will he find out? Will he rediscover his courage and enact revenge on his Brothers?

And did Jon Snow actually die? Or will he be reincarnated into his direwolf, appropriately named Ghost, or even reappear in Season 6 as the tree Bran is currently hiding under?

14 years of Big Brother around the world [Infographic]

With the 10th season of Big Brother kicking off in Australia to have graced our shores (excluding the ill fated Celebrity Big Brother), it is time to reflect on the TV juggernaut across the globe.

The below infographic by Dan Sullivan highlights some interesting statistics on the show at an international level including:

  • 3,885 individual housemates have appeared on Big Brother across 40 countries

  • The prize money in the US version of the show is double that of Australia’s prize money.
  • Germany boasts the most number of housemates in one season – 59 housemates! (That is a lot of nudity, posing and mind numbing chatter)Source: http://visual.ly/big-brother-breakdown

3 reasons why social media has helped the relaunch of Big Brother Australia

It was easy to see the impact of social media within a few minutes of watching the newly re-launched series of Big Brother (BB) by Channel Nine. My Facebook and Twitter feed was littered with comments of praise or hatred fueled by the introduction of each new housemate. No longer did we need to wait for conversations by the cooler at work the next day, it was all happening live.

So how is social media helping the big brother relaunch?

1. Live feedback. Tweets using the #bbau hashtag are brought up onscreen during the show giving viewers a chance to see opinions on each of the housemates live. Producers are then able to see what fans like and what they need to work on or getting negative feedback.

2. Raising exposure. Social media is free, getting fans to engage in the BB brand and posting to their followers helps to widen the shows exposure. The BB Facebook page has more than 420,000 Likes, with weekly Superfan Competitions promoting engagement and raising the profile of each episode even whilst off air, they even remind fans when the show is about to start.

3. Adding value. Tweets from fans are often funny or scathing about a particular housemate, proving an additional layer of entertainment for viewers.

So will social media help bring back the ratings to the formerly flailing reality show? Last week BB was in the top ten in ratings each night it aired, will social media help save it from network eviction?
